A Graphic Designer, Audiovisual Producer and Sports Enthusiast Made in Cuba

Ismar Rodriguez can be cursorily described as a Cuban graphic designer and audiovisual producer. I became acquainted with him thanks to a Facebook group he manages, called Golazo al 90 (roughly translated as “Incredible Goal in the ninetieth minute”). Golazo—as we call it in shortis a private group where extraordinary debates about soccer take on a daily basis. Ismar is a headstrong enthusiast of soccer, especially the Football Club Barcelona and the Brazil National Team.

Besides his sport passions, Ismar developed a very successful career in Cuba as an audiovisual producer, taking part in award-winning videos for some of the most popular musicians in the early 2000s.His disagreement with the political situation of Cuba, and the need to seek better employment opportunities prompted Ismar to take the course of action most Cubans forcefully take today: leave the country. In America, Ismar has developed a few design projects, including the one I personally enjoy the most: Eye-conic.

In my interview I expect to learn more about Ismar’s life in Cuba, his award-winning videos, and his latest projects.

  1. I did not expect you to have met Ismar through a facebook group, however that’s a unique way to meet someone. His design project “Eye-conic” that you have shared is different from most design art that I have seen. Hopefully you will gain valuable knowledge and some interesting information from this interview.
